Host an IPLA Board meeting!

In addition to our cool virtual meetings held bimonthly starting next Thursday March 25th, we’ll be meeting in person, too, and we want to travel around the state to make it easy for members to attend.  If you would like to volunteer to host our August 26 or October 28 meeting, please contact Edra at Plainfield Library, or your favorite local Board member.

Our April 22 meeting will be in Seymour at Jackson County Public Library at 10:00am EDT.  June 24 is scheduled for West Lafayette.

HB 1086 Passes

The final home for legislation supported by the ILF legislative committee, HB 1086 did pass.  See http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2010/HE/HE1086.1.html for excruciating detail.  Basically, the sections relating to libraries were to:

1. Clarify fiscal bodies for certain libraries

2. Define how long a Board member who has already served four consecutive terms has to wait out before being appointed again

3. Allow library boards to choose to issue free library cards to their own employees and employees of schools in the library district who are not residents of the district

4. Allow electronic payment of claims

5. Set up in law what you have to do to dissolve a library district

6.  Eliminate the $10 minimum for 3rd party collections

Wondering what’s up?

The IPLA Board met with consultant Libby Alexander at Plainfield Library on 2/24.   At this meeting, the new Board got to know each other, went through IPLA’s strategic plan, and worked on forming some work groups.  Communication, Board Development (to get YOU involved), and continuing last year’s popular Town Hall meetings were identified as our biggest priorities. 

The IPLA Board will be meeting monthly, on the 4th Thursday, to keep the momentum going this year.  We’ll alternate meeting electronically with traveling to all parts of the state.  Remember, members are welcome at any meeting, virtual or real-world.

Our next meeting is Thursday, March 25th at 1:00pm, and we are partnering with Indiana State Library to meet via Adobe Connect.    Bring on the webcams!
